The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) Bulk Signing feature in EMIS Web allows clinicians to efficiently sign multiple electronic prescription tasks simultaneously, streamlining the approval process of Awaiting Signing tasks. This feature significantly reduces the time and effort required for reviewing and approving individual prescriptions.
Eligibility Criteria
Only tasks that would be included in the Awaiting Signing folder can be bulk signed. Certain criteria, if unmet, will exclude tasks from being eligible for bulk signing:
- The patient's medication or individual drug review date is overdue.
- The drug requires reauthorisation.
- Prescriptions have unmapped quantities or high-severity warnings such as NSPA, extra high severity, or allergy contradictions.
- Certain drugs, like sodium valproate, are inherently excluded due to their properties.
If no review date is set, tasks become eligible for bulk signing.
Online Prescription Requests
New functionality introduced in EMIS Web allows prescription requests received through online services to be bulk signed under specific conditions:
- Repeat dispensing courses must not exceed 365 days in duration.
- Courses should not include schedule 2 or 3 controlled drugs.
- Prescriptions require a dm+d code.
- They should not be private prescriptions.
- The patient must have a suitable pharmacy set up for Phase 3 without opting out of EPS.
This enhancement facilitates quicker processing of bulk prescription approvals from patient requests, empowering administrators and clinicians with enhanced efficiency.
"The ability to bulk sign multiple Awaiting Signing tasks represents a substantial time-saving measure for clinicians, streamlining workflow and allowing improved focus on patient care."
Configuration
To utilize the bulk signing functionality, you must configure it via Workflow Manager Configuration under Organisation Options within Medicine Management. Once enabled, this feature becomes available organisation-wide, ensuring a consistent medication management approach across your practice.
