Overview
Registering dummy patients lets you safely practise adding and editing patient data, without affecting real patient information. This can be helpful for training and exploring new features of EMIS Web.
By using dummy patients, staff can test new features in a safe environment, ensuring that real patient data remains accurate.
Benefits
- Safe testing: Avoids risking real patient data when trialling new workflows or functionality.
- Training opportunities: Offers staff a realistic but controlled environment to practise tasks such as consultations or messaging.
- Quick creation: You only need to fill mandatory registration fields, making set-up faster than with full patient profiles.
Limitations
- No Spine linkage: Dummy patients cannot access EPS, PDS or other Spine-enabled services, so full system testing is limited.
- Isolated testing: They are not recognised between organisations. Any functionality relying on data sharing with other sites is not fully testable.
- Markings on printouts: Any printed materials display a ‘Dummy Patient’ watermark to prevent confusion.
How to register dummy patients
- From the EMIS button, select Registration.
- On the Registration ribbon, click Add Patient and choose Dummy.
