Overview
A dummy patient lets you simulate real patient interactions in EMIS Web for training and testing without affecting genuine records. You can safely practise consultations, data entry and SMS messaging workflows.
This approach can save time and ensures staff can rehearse new workflows, maintaining confidentiality while protecting real patient data.
How to register a dummy patient
Follow these steps to add a dummy patient to EMIS Web:
- Access Registration: Select the EMIS menu, hover over Registration, then choose Registration.
- Start a new registration: On the ribbon, click Add Patient and select Dummy.
- Enter mandatory details: Provide the required fields (marked with a red asterisk). Examples include Family Name, Date of Birth, and Gender.
- Complete address and contact details (optional for a dummy patient, but you can add a test phone number if you need to try SMS messaging).
- Primary Care screen: Select the Usual GP and tick Dispensing accordingly. Use any appropriate test data.
- Patient Messaging screen: By default, your dummy patient is opted in for SMS. If you want to see how SMS reminders work, leave it on; otherwise, toggle off.
- Confirm registration: Once all necessary screens are completed, click OK.
When you print documents for dummy patients, you’ll see a “Dummy Patient” watermark, ensuring they’re never confused with actual patient records.
