Overview

Mapping your local slot types to the national GPAD categories ensures a consistent, accurate representation of your appointment activity for both local reporting and NHS-wide data analysis. This alignment helps give a clear, standardised view of service delivery and reduces mismatches when reporting capacity and demand.

Steps to Map Slot Types

  • Open Appointment Book: Select EMIS Web menu > Appointments > Appointment Book.
  • On the ribbon, choose Appts Config and in the left-hand pane, select National Slot Mapping.
  • Use the filters or search bar to locate the slot type you want to map.
  • In the Service Setting field, pick the appropriate option (for example, GP Practice).
  • In the Context Type field, pick the relevant context (for example, Face to Face, Telephone/Audio or Home Visit).
  • In the National Slot Category field, select the category that best matches your slot type (for example, General Consultation Routine).
  • Click OK to save your changes.

This approach standardises how appointments appear in your reports and the GP Workload Tool, helping you monitor and plan resources based on accurate data.

“By mapping slot types to national categories, practices gain a clearer overview of activity, supporting better capacity planning and more reliable reporting.”
