Check prerequisites
Ensure your practice has an ODS code and Spine connectivity, and that your patient records are synchronised with Spine. It’s also helpful to create a dedicated “dummy practitioner” session holder for NHS111 triage lists with a relevant job category (such as General Medical Practitioner) and set it as a consulter and session holder.
Activate GP Connect
Open Organisation Configuration in EMIS Web and confirm GP Connect is switched on. If you do not see the appropriate GP Connect options, contact EMIS Support for assistance.
Add an organisation group
Under Configuration > Organisation Configuration > Organisation Groups, add a new group. Include your practice ODS code and any NHS111 providers you need to share your triage list with. Name the group something like PracticenameTown_NHS111 to match NHS guidelines.
Create your daily triage session
In the Appointment Book, click Create Session. Use timed appointment slots and select GP Connect Bookable. Add the dummy practitioner as the session holder. Apply a filter that reserves all these slots for the organisation group you created. This ensures only NHS111 can access and book these referral appointments. Save the session as a template and schedule it daily.
This approach can reduce the need for NHS111 to call your practice to confirm availability, freeing your staff from unnecessary phone calls.

Hero Health’s appointment booking and care navigation functionality integrates with EMIS Web to make patient scheduling smoother. By allowing patients (or referrers like NHS111) to book directly, you reduce admin time for your team.
